Bob Swaim, filmmaker and Director of EICAR’s International Department, was one of the Keynote Speakers at the Communication Festival “Article 19” held annually at Manipal’s School of Communication (SOC).
This year’s three day event, February 20 – 21, was dedicated to the journalists who had died for the cause of freedom. Article 19 is the article in the Indian constitution that guarantees freedom of speech and expression. Swaim spoke on the impact of digital filmmaking in today’s society and how it has affected film, television and media industries with dramatic social and political consequences.
Other speakers included social activist and writer Harsh Mander, editor and political commentator Hartosh Singh Bal, social scientist and renowned India intellectual Shiv Visvanathan, and social critic and founder of NewsLaundry Abhinandan Sekhri.
